Macro Solutions for Women, the People and the Planet

The Feminist Task Force, one of the Co-Coveners of the Women’s Working Group on Financing for Development, together with Equidad de Genero, has launched a webinar series entitled,

Macro Solutions for Women, the People and the Planet: A series of action-oriented dialogues on the macro agendas and the current crises.

We are convening this series of dialogues to unveil the web of systemic dynamics that have undermined the well-being of people and the planet, which nowadays are actually the greatest obstacles to solve the present challenge in a comprehensive and definitive manner. Each session aims to present the structural points of entry of a specific problem, finding the interconnection to women and girl’s human rights, as well as to the well-being of people and the planet. In each dialogue, specific proposals of campaigns and action-oriented solutions will be explored.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis around the world unveiled and enhanced the pervasive impacts of the multiple social, environmental and economic crises. The harsher effects are seen the most at the local level: as weeks and months pass by, immediate solutions fall short to address the complex realities of those who historically have suffered discrimination and inequalities. What is becoming clear is the gendered nature of this crisis. As COVID-19 plateaus in some countries, research is surfacing to show that women are bearing a disproportionate brunt of the healthcare costs through sustaining the care-economy and as high percentage sellers in the informal sector and as a majority of small-scale farmers in the agriculture economies of many countries. Despite the best efforts, no country and no region alone can solve the entire implications of the crises on their own. There is no single solution either. It has become clear the need for systemic solutions, addressing the root causes of the current challenges. The Macro Solutions for Women, the People and the Planet will attempt to bring the most current information to the fore and now more than ever we need to map what are the main messages and actions we can promote within and across social movements for impactful solutions.
