On International Women’s Day, the Feminist Task Force joins women and our allies globally for equity, justice and the human rights of women and girls through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.
In the same incredible spirit of love and liberation that inspired the Women’s March in January, we join together in solidarity to make March 8th A Day Without A Woman, recognizing the enormous contributions that women of all backgrounds and diversities add to our socio-economic system while experiencing pay inequity, job insecurity, sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and are the last to be hired and the first to be fired. Women also contribute significantly to the care economy and receive none or little remuneration for significant contributions.
Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 9th A Day Without A Woman, in one or all of the following ways:
- Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor
- Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women and minority owned businesses).
- Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman.
We join the Global Strike together with the Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice. As climate justice advocates, the Feminist Task Force joins the Global Strike as part of the Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice and invite you to sign the Statement of Solidarity calling for:
– Climate Justice
– Women’s Human Rights
– Global Equality
– Development Justice
“We are challenging the existing political, corporate driven systems, dirty economies, and extractive industries that threaten human rights and exacerbate inequalities. We oppose false solutions and demand that the human rights of women, indigenous peoples, workers, migrants, and people living in poverty are promoted and respected.
The WGCCJ has been calling for ‘systems change, not climate change’ for several years and we will continue to do so as climate change continues to threaten our very existence. We aim to add the voice of grassroots climate justice movements and illustrate the connections between climate justice, gender justice, economic justice, environmental justice, racial justice, and development justice.”
This March 8th, and throughout the next two weeks of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women #CSW2017, we invite you to stay vigilant, stay engaged, spread the word about women’s rights and activism, climate and gender justice, promote the messaging and ride the wave of energy demanding equality and justice.
Follow @FemTaskForce Feminist Task Force on Facebook and sign-up on the FTF website for updates during the Youth CSW (March 11-12) and the CSW61 (March 13-24).
