High Level Panel on the Post 2015 process – Updates:

The Inequalities Consultation Leadership meeting in Copenhagen on February 19th included several members of the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post 2015 Development Framework.  Present at the meeting were Mexico’s Patricia Espinoza, Gunilla Carlsson, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, Betty Maina of Kenya, Dr. Fulbert Gero Amoussouga and Andris Piebalgs, EU Commissioner for Development, European Commission.

In an informal conversation, Ms. Espinoza confirmed a meeting of the HLP in Mexico on April 22-24, 2013 which had been announced at the Monrovia meeting of the HLP last month. Ms. Espinoza added that they were planning a meeting to be regional in focus with global in scope. The exact location of the meeting within Mexico were to be determined. More details would follow in an official announcement of the meeting by Mexican officials.  The FTF along with Latin American organizations and other civil society organizations had been calling for increased participation by Latin Americans at meetings of the HLP following low turnout of Latin@s at the London and Monrovia global meetings.

The UN Secretary General appointed a High Level Panel (HLP) of Eminent Persons that will provide recommendations on the post-2015 development framework that will succeed the current Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The first meeting of the HLP took place in New York in September, 2012; the second meeting of the HLP took place on 1 November 2012 in London, UK and the third meeting was in Monrovia, Liberia in January, 2013.
